Meet Our Team
Sandon, BC is still an active community with less than 20 residents. Most attractions are free to view, though donations are gratefully appreciated. The town site of Sandon is mostly owned by Hal Wright, who has lived in Sandon since 1972, and the Silversmith Power and Light Corp who's mission is to maintain and restore the historical importance of Sandon. The restoration efforts for Sandon is not government funded and we rely on the donations and the kindness of individuals who volunteer.
We thank all our volunteers for their assistance in preserving the history of Sandon.

MEET VIDA (aka LIFE)
Vida Turok - a born and raised Vancouver Island resident arrived in Sandon the morning of July 4, 2016 and fell in love "literally". She became the 4th "full time" Sandon resident on August 16, 2016. You will find Vida maintaining the Sandon grounds and managing the Prospector's Pick cafe/gift shop/visitor centre, apprenticing as a Power House Engineer and soon opening up the 14th Mountain Bistro. Vida's story is epic. In a nutshell, Vida decided to sell her RAWkolate business, 85% of her possessions and purchased a pair of hiking boots and a backpack and set out on foot off Vancouver Island on the morning of April 18, 2016 to hike Southwestern BC and she did just that. Living out of a backpack for 100 days and spending 70 of those days walking and hiking mountains (14 mountains - Idaho Peak being the 14th mountain and 2700 kms) When Vida arrived in Sandon the morning of July 4, 2016 she hiked up to Idaho Peak via the Wakefield trail starting from Silverton on July 3, 2016 and walked down the 12 km forest road into Sandon the next morning. At the 9 km point along the Idaho FSR looking down into Sandon she stood there not knowing that she was looking down on the ghost city of Sandon and was like "what the hell is this place in the middle of a mountianous valley". Vida was drawn to Sandon that very moment and new it was home. Want to learn more just ask her; she is happy to share her story. Vida's ambitions for Sandon are to continue to protect and share the amazing rich 120+ year history and to share her love of "good" food, community, local farming and supporting a local strong economy. Vida is also the moderator of the Sandon BC Facebook page, the creator and editor of the Echoes of the Valley YouTube Channel and soon will be sharing her story and Hal's story via video and the 25 year corruption that has plagued Sandon since 1998. |
